Trends in Caravanning: Boom in Sales and Rental of Motorhomes and Campervans in 2024

During January 2024, a notable increase in sales of new motorhomes and campervans was observed, reaching a total of 460 units, representing a 39.1% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. Similarly, caravan registrations experienced a 24.3% growth, rising from 74 to 92 units. This rebound represents the best performance since the start of the pandemic, although it still remains below the levels of 2019 and 2020.

The used market also saw a 2.51% increase in sales of used motorhomes and campervans, while new caravan registrations decreased slightly by 1.41%. This increase in sales is mainly attributed to the rise in demand for urban campers, versatile and compact vehicles, as well as the increase in registrations of new motorhomes and campervans intended for rental.

In parallel, a significant surge in van rentals has been observed, reflecting a trend towards flexible mobility. This growth aligns with the preference for independent and personalized travel experiences. Van rentals have become popular with both individuals and businesses, and are used for leisure travel, moving, and commercial transport. Furthermore, the rental of new vans has also increased, due to the flexibility they offer and the convenience of avoiding the costs associated with owning and maintaining a personal vehicle.

In summary, the growth in motorhome and campervan sales, along with the boom in van rentals, reflects an evolution in mobility preferences, driven by the search for flexible solutions tailored to the individual and business needs of users. This phenomenon signals a shift towards more sustainable and efficient consumption models in the caravanning sector.
